Event Details
Join guest instructor Archana Mahimkar to explore Warli, one of the oldest art forms, first discovered in the late 16th century in a tribal village in India. It is believed that this tribe- The Warlis- first started this art back in the 10th century using a circle, a triangle, and two lines- shapes found most commonly in nature- as a form of communication.
The Warli Workshop class will walk attendees through the history of this ancient art form, the relevance of the art to Indian culture, the reasoning behind why this art form only uses 3 shapes, how to draw borders, and figures in Warli. The objective of this class will be to have attendees walk away excited at having learnt a new (ancient) art form and having a completed picture to enjoy.
Registration is required. This class is open to adults age 18 and up. All supplies are provided for you to create a piece of art to take home.
