Event Details
Join guest instructor Sheela Singla for a guided mindfulness meditation practice. Sheela is currently in training with UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center to become a certified mindfulness teacher. Sheela will provide a brief introduction for new attendees and will cover different topics of interest at each monthly session. The topic for October and November will be the five obstacles to mindfulness. In October Sheela will cover doubt, restlessness, and sleepiness followed by aversion and desire in November.
You may ask: What is mindfulness? One definition of mindfulness is paying attention to our present moment experiences with kindness, curiosity, and non-judgment. Another quality of mindfulness is acceptance of things as they are right now.
The five obstacles may seem like they’re preventing us from being mindful, whether in daily life or in practice, but in truth we can make them part of our practice. This program will be include how to recognize when an obstacle has arisen, and what to do in response. Understanding how to recognize the obstacles and how to work with them can be beneficial for understanding ourselves (what helps us, what hinders us) so that we can act effectively and with kindness.
This session is open to adults age 18 and up. Registration is not required.
